What we collect

When you submit a form on this website (a door, Tell Your Story, or the contact form), we collect what you choose to enter: your story or enquiry text, and the contact details you provide (name, email, and/or phone, only where you give them). We do not request government identifiers, payment details, or sensitive personal data through these forms, and we ask you not to include them in free-text fields.

Likes and comments on articles

If you like an article, your browser keeps a random identifier and we store only a scrambled (hashed) version of it, so one browser counts once. We also keep a hashed form of your network address for a short time to limit abuse. If you comment, we store your name, your comment and the email address if you choose to give one. Your email is never shown. A comment is read by our team before it appears, and appears with your name only if approved. To have a comment removed, write to the address under Contact below.

Why we collect it

We use this information to understand your enquiry, route it to the right person at Lela Works, respond to you, and, only if you separately opt in, send you occasional updates.

Lawful basis

We process enquiry and story information on the basis of your consent, given when you submit a form, and our legitimate interest in responding to people who contact us. Marketing updates are sent only with your separate, explicit consent, which you may withdraw at any time.

Retention

We retain submission records for as long as reasonably necessary to respond to your enquiry and maintain an internal record of our interactions, after which records are archived or deleted according to our internal retention schedule. You may request earlier deletion. See "Your rights" below.

Sharing

We do not sell personal information. Submission data is accessible only to authorised Lela Works team members who need it to do their work, and to the infrastructure providers who host our website, database and email delivery, acting under our instruction.

Analytics

Where analytics is enabled on this site, it is configured not to receive personal story content, names, phone numbers or email addresses. Analytics events record actions (such as a page view or a button click), not the content you write into a form.

Your rights

You may ask us what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, subject to any legal basis we may have to retain it. To make such a request, contact us at [email protected].

Kenyan data protection

Lela Works Limited operates from Kenya. Our processing of personal data is reviewed against the Kenya Data Protection Act, 2019 and its subsidiary regulations. This review is part of our ongoing operational handover and is noted as outstanding in our internal launch documentation until formally completed and recorded.
